Josh Rees’ late header earned the Daggers a spot in the fourth round of the Essex Senior Cup. The game got off to an eventful start with Stephenson having a golden opportunity to get the Daggers on the board 9 minutes in, but Smith did well to keep it out.

Less than a minute later, Woodhouse found himself with a great opportunity inside of the six-yard box but was denied by an outstretched save from Colchester’s keeper.

Adigun had an effort from range in the 32nd minute which forced Smith to make yet another strong save, pushing the rebound toward Rendall who hit one from outside the box, but it narrowly went wide.

In the 44th minute, Vigrass found himself with a decent chance down the right-hand side, hitting the ball with power which rebounded off of Smith right back to him, however on the second attempt, Smith held his ground and punched the ball away from danger

In the 57th minute, Adigun created a great opportunity around the right-hand side of the six-yard box where he managed to chip the keeper from a tight angle, but it hit the top of the crossbar before bouncing clear. Vincent put in a good corner in the 70th minute which Vigrass was able to get a powerful volley behind just outside of the six-yard box, but Smith showed up big again and made an impressive diving save to keep the match level. 75 minutes in Vincent put in yet another corner which created a golden scoring opportunity, with Woodhouse managing to get a head on the ball which flashed across the face of goal before hitting the left post.

Vincent’s consistent corner deliveries finally paid off in the 87th minute when his cross found Rees whose solid header hit the back of the net and put the Daggers through to the fourth round.
